Recently I have become aware that my dear friend Adam Duff was tragically killed in an offshore accident in September off the coast of Dubai. I am having much trouble finding a family member as Adam was a divorcee. I do know that his daughter is Sharon Bathgate and son is Adam Duff. Adam was part of our extended Texas family. If anyone can help me located Sharon & Andy (Andrew) Bathgate and/or Adam Duff Jr of Aberdeen, Scotland it would be appreciated as I am not getting far with Noble Drilling and both my husband and I would like to pay our respects. As my father was non-existent Adam even walked me down the aisle when I got married. Any help knowing how to find his children in Aberdeen would help. Thank you! jessica-mcguinness@hotmail.com

THE family of a North-east man killed in a helicopter crash today told of their devastation.

Grandad Adam Duff died when the aircraft smashed into a rig off the coast of Dubai and exploded.

His daughter Sharon today spoke of the “party animal” who would be sadly missed.

“He was a much-loved father, grandfather, brother and friend,” said Sharon Bathgate, who is married to oil worker Andy.

“He was a very popular man and well known throughout Aberdeen’s social circle.

“He was also well known in the oil industry and worldwide due to his love of travelling.

“Our father will be sorely missed by us and all his family and many friends.”

Aberdeen born and bred, oil worker Adam was among seven people on the Bell 212 helicopter when it crashed into an oil-drilling platform.

It was carrying workers to a rig operated by oilfield service provider Petrofac on behalf of Dubai Petroleum.

The smash left no survivors.

Authorities confirmed that Adam, who worked for Noble Drilling, was one of those killed in the crash after Sharon flew out to Dubai with her brother, also Adam, to identify the body.

Her husband Andy spoke of his shock at the news of his popular father-in-law’s death.

“I was on a rig off Norway,” said Andy, dad to Craig, 8, and Andrew, 11. He added: “I was just in such shock.

“Sharon flew out to Dubai but didn’t have to do a visual identification, she described a tattoo that Adam had and identified him that way.

“Now we have to wait until his body is sent home and the family can start coming to terms with the loss.”

Adam was brought up in the Park Street area of the city. He later lived in Kittybrewster before moving into a flat in Tillydrone.

But throughout his life Adam, known as “jetset” to his family, worked all over the world, including Malta, Mexico, America and the Middle East.

Sharon said her dad, in his early 60s, was well known as the life and soul of the party.

“Our father was a man who enjoyed life in the sun and was a born entertainer,” she said.
